The ASK:

Introduce the new, musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist by creating a fun video of the cast playing a game of“Guess that NBC Tune” captured at NBC’s TCA press event.

The SOLVE:

Working heavily with the editor, I creative produced this video in its story edit, music, and design.

Story Edit & Music. As an associate producer on the TCA set, I understood the energy of the cast and what camera takes translated well onscreen. We shot in 4k, so it was important to stress to the editor that we could vary the framing of talent. I pulled music from my library of stock music and gathered the theme song assets across our most popular NBC shows for use in the video. This informed the tone and direction of the editor’s first iteration of the story cut, which I then polished in pacing before moving on to the graphics portion.

Design. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist loves pops of color. For our motion graphics, we originally played with the colors on the show’s logo: yellow and pink. However, the starkness of the true colors to the white backdrop of the cast rendered the text illegible. Consulting our in-house designers, I chose to pivot to a darker magenta and happy blue as replacement.

Our final video translated the charm of the cast and provided a fun game for new fans to play along.
